UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – WPSU Penn State will host a documentary screening and panel discussion about the relationship between gun violence and religion beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11 at the WPSU Studios at Innovation Park.

The public is invited to view “The Armor of Light,” which screened at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival in New York, and participate in a panel discussion about the film and gun violence issues. Registration is free and available at the WPSU website. The event, which will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on April 11, is offered through Penn State’s Talking Together About Guns initiative.

The panel will include Gary Dull, senior pastor of The Faith Baptist Church of Altoona; Deb Marteslo, the Pennsylvania chapter leader for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America; Lacey Wallace, assistant professor of criminal justice at Penn State Altoona; and Ben Wideman, campus pastor for 3rd Way Collective. Matt Jordan, associate professor for media studies in the College of Communications, will serve as moderator.

“The Armor of Light” documents the journey of an evangelical minister trying to find the strength to preach about the growing toll of gun violence in America and whether being pro-gun is consistent with pro-life views.

The screening and panel discussion will be taped for broadcast and air from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, on WPSU-TV.

The Talking Together About Guns initiative is sponsored by several Penn State colleges and organizations including the College of Communications and the College of the Liberal Arts’ Department of Communication Arts and Sciences. The initiative hopes to foster a discussion on the practice of talking together about differences involving guns, gun violence and gun safety on campuses, communities and across the state.
