UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Schreyer Honors College is now showcasing Scholar artwork in “Illuminate,” an art gallery on the ground floor of Atherton Hall.

The gallery currently features artwork from four Schreyer Scholars who submitted their art to a panel of Schreyer staff, students, and a Scholar Alumni, Kaleigh Quinnan. Quinnan, a graduate of the College of Arts and Architecture, is an artist based in the Philadelphia area and she also came to the gallery opening as a featured guest.

Scholar artists and their pieces are as follows:

  • Olivia Knoechel, College of Engineering, “Under the Same Light”
  • Jessica Matinchek, Bellisario College of Communications, “Where it all Began”
  • Paige Rishel, College of the Liberal Arts, “Cambodia in Contrast”
  • Lisa Wang, Eberly College of Science, “Soaring Red”

“The Honors College had empowered me to really soar out of my comfort zone, to innovate within my organization, and to take chance on opportunities, whether professional, global, research, or anything beyond that I had never once thought I would be involved in,” said Wang.

Scholars were joined by family, friends, and members of the Schreyer staff at the “Illuminate” art gallery opening on April 10, where artists were able to share a few words about their work, and celebrate the new gallery. Additionally, the gallery wall signage was created by second-year Scholar Izzy Gasparraj.

“It is so exciting to see student artwork in Atherton Hall,” said Patrick Mather, dean of Schreyer Honors College. “It is a great opportunity live our value of being ‘Scholar Centered’ and adds some personality to our walls.”
