Georgine Postupack Borchick, a native of McAdoo, Pennsylvania, is a Ukrainian folk artist who will be leading the demonstration. Her work consists of traditional folk art, including pysanky eggs. She has a rich heritage and background in bringing different faiths together to find commonalities.
Postupack Borchick works and teaches many different types of art including:
- Ukrainian Pysanky Easter Eggs – Handmade with a traditional kistka (writing tool), beeswax and dyes. During the Easter season, a dozen of Postupack Borchick's pysanky eggs are displayed in the American History Building at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.
- Doily – Handmade doily created using an Aedia Cloth with Nazyanka (one of the oldest embroideries in Ukraine).
- Kalzanka – Handmade Kalzanka created using an Aedia Cloth with another older Ukrainian embroidery.
In this presentation, Postupack Borchick will explain the origination and significance of Ukrainian pysanky eggs. Join in to learn about the process and what the colors and symbols signify.
This event will take place in the R. Michael Fryer Conference Center (101 Classroom Building).
