SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Art Space at Penn State Schuylkill will open the 2026-27 exhibition season with "Beyond the Ridge," a collection of paintings by Berks County artist Jon Bond. The exhibition will be on display from Aug. 24 through Oct. 2 in Art Space, located in Room 100 of the Classroom Building.
The campus will host a free "Meet the Artist" reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet Bond and learn more about his work. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Bond has built an artistic career spanning more than 50 years. Working from his studio in Kempton, Pennsylvania, he draws inspiration from the rolling hills, Pennsylvania Dutch farmsteads and natural landscapes surrounding the Kittatinny Ridge.
His work is rooted in nature, using a muted color palette to create scenes that evoke mystery and a dreamlike atmosphere. Beyond the Ridge features a selection of oil, egg tempera and watercolor paintings created over the past several years, many inspired by the landscapes of eastern Pennsylvania.
Twenty-five works included in the exhibition were inspired by Bond's hikes through the lands surrounding Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Visitors are encouraged to access the exhibition's audio tour to hear the stories and inspiration behind the artwork.
Art Space at Penn State Schuylkill presents rotating exhibitions throughout the academic year featuring regional, national and international artists while providing opportunities for students and the community to engage with the visual arts.
