DUNMORE, Pa. — Penn State Scranton Chancellor Elizabeth Wright has announced that technical services Michael “Jake” Hinton has been named the campus’ Employee of the Month for March.

He was nominated for this distinction by Director of Business Services Gene Grogan, who wrote: “As we were trying to wrap up the Library Building/Nursing renovations, we ran into unforeseen delays that has pushed the opening back several weeks. The delays included what is known as 'punch-list items,' where the contractors need to come back and touch up and/or fix certain things. One item was the need to repaint several areas of the building. It was difficult to ask the subcontractor to perform the work, as he wasn’t responsible for the extra work.

“We needed to get the work done, so we asked Jake to repaint the areas in question. Jake not only did a fantastic job in getting the work done, but he did so in just a few days, dividing his time between his normal duties and this added responsibility. By doing so, it allowed the photographer to come in and get some great professional photos of the building. Jake’s work not only saved the project money, but also allowed us to begin moving both the library and nursing staffs into the building, so that we can be ready for the academic year! Thank you, Jake, and the rest of the Tech Service staff for stepping up once again.”

The Employee of the Month recognition was initiated in 2016 by former campus Chancellor Marwan Wafa as a way of distinguishing staff members who “go above and beyond the call of duty” in serving Penn State Scranton.

Campus staff, faculty and students are encouraged to nominate staff members for the recognition of going “above and beyond.”
