DUNMORE, Pa. — Penn State Scranton is highlighting the campus' student marshals who will lead their fellow graduates during the 58th commencement ceremony procession on May 9 at The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple. This series will feature the students selected as marshals for their academic programs.
Christian Dructor, majoring in project and supply chain management, shares insights about his Penn State Scranton journey, future plans and advice for incoming students.
Q: What are your post-grad plans?
Dructor: Enter the workforce and pursue an MBA.
Q: What was your favorite memory at Penn State Scranton?
Dructor: Collaborating with fellow students and competing in the Smeal Business Plan Competition in State College under the mentorship of Kevin Feifer, program coordinator of business and project and supply chain management.
Q: What was your favorite learning experience?
Dructor: Bill Borer’s supply chain management class, specifically Krispy Kreme Doughnut Day.
Q: What experience prepared you the most for what is next?
Dructor: My interactions with faculty and staff prepared me the most for what comes next. Their advice, industry knowledge and support helped me grow and develop in meaningful ways. Through those experiences, I gained the confidence and preparation I need for this next chapter.
Q: Who at Penn State Scranton has supported you and how?
Dructor: I look back with deep appreciation on the many faculty members who have influenced my experience over the years. There are far more individuals than I could ever fully name, and each contributed something meaningful to my journey. If I had to recognize one person in particular, my adviser, Dr. Qian, was instrumental to both my success and my perspective on the institution. His guidance, encouragement and example left a lasting impression on me, and I will always be grateful for the impact he has had on my life.
Q: Do you have any advice for incoming students beginning their Penn State journey?
Dructor: College is a journey shaped by both success and disappointment. There will be days when things do not unfold as you hoped, and times when the results of your hard work may fall short of your expectations. In those moments, it is important to remain encouraged and remember that every challenge carries a lesson. Growth often comes not only from achievement, but from the resilience developed through setbacks. I also encourage every student to take the time to build meaningful relationships and connect with those around you. The support, guidance and network you develop in college can leave a lasting impact well beyond your years on campus.
