DUNMORE, Pa. — To celebrate and honor Pride Month and the campus’ LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff, Penn State Scranton will host a weeklong series of fun pride-themed events starting April 8.
Campus Coordinator of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Emily Glodzik shared the schedule of events and is encouraging everyone in the campus community to participate. Events taking place include:
- Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in The View Cafe: Pride Week Kickoff Party
- Tuesday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m. in The View Cafe: Sip n' Paint sponsored by the Black Student Union
- Wednesday, April 10, at 12 p.m. in The View Cafe: Pronoun Pizza Party
- Friday, April 12, at 12 p.m. in The View Cafe: Poster making and Pride Parade
“The LGBTQIA+ community is such a large part of diversity, equity and inclusion," said Glodzik, noting that these efforts are high priorities for Penn State. "I am very focused and dedicated to Penn State Scranton's LGBTQIA+ community, and we are very excited for Pride Week to show our support through our many celebrations. We will have giveaways, snacks, a pronoun pizza party and a pride parade, so we really hope you will join us in the fun.”
In previous years, the campus had an active LGBTQIA+ club, but due to student club leaders graduating, the club has been inactive. Currently, there is student interest in reactivating the club, so if any students are interested and wish to help get the club back to active status, they can fill out this interest form online.
"Everyone is welcome to join the club," Glodzik said. “We also strongly encourage anyone and everyone to join our LGBTQIA+ club — allies too!”
