SHARON, Pa. — Penn State 2022-23 Laureate Velvet Brown and the Penn State Graduate Brass Quintet will be performing at the Shenango campus on Wednesday, March 22, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in the Auditorium located at 147 Shenango Ave., Sharon, Pa.

Brown, the David P. Stone Chair and Professor of Tuba and Euphonium, and associate director for equity, diversity and inclusion in the School of Music, is also an international soloist, chamber ensemble performer, recording artist, conductor and orchestral player. She has performed and taught in Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, France, England, Hungary, Slovenia, Russia, Japan, Cuba, Canada and the United States. She is currently the principal tubist of the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra.

By performing in venues across the commonwealth, Brown said she hopes to integrate the African Diaspora into a shared musical journey through concerts, recitals, workshops and lectures.

“I strive to engage audiences with unique collaborative performances, and to enthusiastically share soulful, creative inspirations,” said Brown. “My goal is to merge a musical journey including African American music and education to elicit empowering emotions. It is imperative to reach out to communities regardless of race, origin or background to provide a positive and passionate musical and educational experience.”

The concert on March 22 is free and open to the public. There will be a reception and light luncheon with the musicians following the performance.
