UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State alumnus Robert Saylor, a local endodontist, was recently recognized on Poets & Quants’ — one of the top business education media outlets in the country — "Best & Brightest Online MBAs: Class of 2023" list.

Saylor credited the Penn State Online MBA, from the internationally recognized Smeal College of Business, which is delivered online through Penn State World Campus, as an integral addition in his professional life.

"Looking back on the experience, I had always wanted a degree from Penn State," Saylor said. "The Penn State Smeal College of Business afforded me the flexibility to complete my degree at my own pace, so I did not have to cut into my responsibilities with my practice and my family."

In addition to the flexibility the program offered, Saylor said he looks forward to the continued benefits of his partnership with Smeal as he moves forward in his career.

"I am hopeful that Smeal’s alumni network will prove invaluable as I identify opportunities in consulting practice in the future," he said.

Saylor said he’s always embraced lifelong learning as a vehicle to grow his career: "My formula is pretty simple, but it all starts with picking a career you love.

"Since high school, I have continued to aggerate about 13 years of education, a bachelor’s degree, a doctoral degree, a dental specialty certificate and finally an MBA, so one might call me an education junky," he said.

Saylor said his biggest professional achievement thus far has been to grow and scale a de novo (built from the ground up) dental specialty practice. His coursework at Smeal has provided him with a unique lens which he was able to bring to his practice, he said.

"It has always been curious and somewhat shocking to me the lack of business training in healthcare education,” Saylor said. "I think back on all the courses I have had access to here at Penn State and the true value-add of those courses on how to problem-solve, conduct myself in the workplace, and run my business."

Saylor said he is confident that the business education training he received while attending Penn State will truly position him for success as managing partner of the practice both now and into the future.
