Penn State Smeal names 2022 Faculty Award winners

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Smeal College of Business has announced the recipients of the 2022 Faculty Teaching Awards. They were recognized at the college’s annual Fall All-College Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Award recipients are chosen after a nomination process that includes a statement of teaching philosophy, two letters of recommendation and SRTEs. The awards committee meets over the summer to review the nominee packets and make recommendations to John and Karen Arnold Dean Charles Whiteman.

“Given that part of Smeal’s mission is providing extraordinary education, having a robust portfolio of teaching awards shows that our college walks the walk in addition to talking the talk with respect to how much it values high-level teaching instruction,” said Sam Bonsall, professor of accounting and chair of the Teaching Awards Committee.

“In addition, identifying the outstanding teachers in our college allows the rest of us to learn from them and become more effective instructors. Essentially, there is a spillover effect.”

In the past two years, more awards have been introduced to recognize excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and online levels, as well as awards for innovation and impact, which are nominated by alumni.
