Penn State Smeal names Wagner as senior director of marketing and communications

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Charles H. Whiteman, John and Karen Arnold Dean of the Penn State Smeal College of Business, has named Ron Wagner as the college’s senior director of marketing and communications.

Wagner has deep experience leading marketing, communications, brand strategy, business growth and customer experience initiatives and has been the top marketing leader for multiple firms since 2009.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ron to Smeal," Whiteman said. "His extensive background in marketing and communications, combined with his attention to audience-first strategies and digital innovation, will play a pivotal role in advancing the college’s strategic vision and showcasing our excellence to the world."

Wagner holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from Penn State and his love of the University is unquestioned.

“From childhood to now, I’ve been a Penn Stater,” Wagner said. “I’m honored to serve my alma mater and join the leadership team at Smeal.”

Not only is he a Penn Stater, but his children Patrick and Emma are also Penn State graduates.

Wagner has served on several Penn State advisory boards, been a frequent guest lecturer and has acted as a mentor and adviser to students through LionLink, FastStart and Happy Valley Launchbox powered by PNC Bank.

“This is an exciting and transformative time for Smeal,” Wagner said. “I look forward to working with Dean Whiteman, his successor and the entire Smeal community to continue to innovate the college’s offerings and create value for our key audiences and stakeholders.”

Wagner begins his tenure at Smeal on Monday, April 1.
