Penn State Smeal team wins Carolina Case Challenge

Four Penn State Smeal College of Business undergraduate students from the Nittany Lion Consulting Group recently collaborated to emerge victorious in the Carolina Case Challenge in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Connor Andrews, senior – supply chain management; Joshu Rubin, junior – finance; Yash Patel, junior – finance; and Jillian Wagner, junior – marketing; teamed up to emerge victorious over 10 other teams and win $1,200.

Host North Carolina finished second, Duke was third and Georgetown was fourth.

The two-day competition started with teams tasked with devising a global expansion strategy for Brex, a financial technology company. The teams had eight hours to put together their case. The following morning, those teams presented in front of three judges, two Deloitte consultants and a Brex manager. The four finalists then presented to all of the judges and students. After deliberations, the winners were crowned.

In addition to the competition, contestants were presented with opportunities to network with the judges and other students at lunches, dinners and socials.

David Lenze, assistant teaching professor in management and director of Smeal’s APEX Program, served as the team’s faculty adviser. Juan Veruete, senior academic adviser, was the team’s chaperone.
