UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Consortium on Substance Use and Addiction (CSUA), part of the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) at Penn State, has announced an invitation for its Level 2 Seed Grants program.
Applications for the program are encouraged to build upon the University’s distinctive strengths in substance use research: pathways to addiction (including basic science, etiology, and epidemiology), criminal justice, and spillover effects to children, families, and communities. Proposals may focus on any addictive substance, including alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, nonmedical use of prescription drugs, and other illicit drugs. Translation and dissemination of evidence-based programs or new community interventions in partnership with Penn State Extension proposals are encouraged. Priority will be given to projects that make a convincing case for how the developing research program can advance solutions to the systemic problems of substance use and addiction.
All full-time Penn State faculty members who hold an appointment at a Penn State location are eligible to apply. Commonwealth campus faculty are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications should first be submitted for approval to the faculty member’s department/program head and are due on March 31. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions no later than May 10.

The CSUA, housed in the Social Science Research Institute, draws on the expertise of substance-based researchers, educators, and practitioners from across Penn State to develop and implement effective programs, policies and practices aimed at preventing and treating addiction and its spillover effects on children, families, and communities.
