Social Science Research Institute accepting 2024-25 faculty fellows applications

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) is now accepting applications for its 2024-25 Mentored Early Career Faculty Fellows Program.

The Faculty Fellows program supports tenure line faculty at University Park and the College of Medicine at the rank of assistant professor who are interested in training in a new area of research and/or the development of new interdisciplinary collaborations. The aim should be to build sustainable research and securing external funding. Eligibility requirements and the application process is explained on the SSRI Faculty Fellows page.

Fellowships for Commonwealth Campus faculty are available through the Commonwealth Campuses Research Collaboration Development Program. For details on that program, please contact Jenn Leedy.

The faculty fellows program offers a one- or two-course release from teaching during a single academic year to support early career faculty to allow time for study and training with the guidance and support of a mentor or mentor team. The mentor/mentoring team will also receive up to $1,000 in the form of a summer supplement that will be divided by the members of the team.

Applications should first be submitted for approval to the applicant’s department head. After approval, the head should forward the application to the college dean. A college dean may submit up to two proposals each year to ssri-seed-grant@psu.edu.

The deadline for applications is Nov. 22. Successful applicants will be notified by Dec. 15.

SSRI provides research support for investigators from diverse fields within the social and behavioral sciences, research collaborations across disciplinary lines, across colleges and research centers, and across universities as well as the activities of multidisciplinary and translational research centers. Please direct questions about the faculty fellowships or the application process to Koraly Pérez-Edgar.
