Community Diversity Group sponsors programs

Customer service training for diverse customers and the mentoring of community women from diverse cultures will be focus of two upcoming programs, sponsored by the Community Diversity Group, a non-profit coalition with representatives from the citizens of Centre County, businesses of Centre County, employees of Penn State, local governments, and local non-profit organizations.

"Enhancing Excellence in Service to Diverse Customers" will be held twice, on Thursday, Oct. 2 and Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the State College Municipal Building, Allen Street, State College.  The workshop is aimed at business owners, managers and employees who want to enhance their understanding of diverse cultures and improve their customer service. The cost $30 per person, with a discount for groups of 10.

In addition, a panel discussion on a mentoring program for community women from diverse cultures will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m., in the State College Municipal Building.

The American Association of University Women and the CDG are partners in a community mentoring program, founded in 2007 to assist women of diverse backgrounds in our community to connect, build relationships, and grow both personally and professionally within our community.  Panel members will share their perspective of being a woman in our community with respect to their experiences, managing careers, balancing career and family, share their thoughts, discuss obstacles and barriers they have faced, and provide tidbits of advice to young women who may be starting out in a new community or embarking on their careers.
