Dean Whiteman: Grateful for the tenacity and focus of our staff and faculty

"All of this was accomplished as the pandemic gripped the world and altered all of our personal and professional lives," writes Charles Whiteman, dean of the Smeal College of Business. "The Smeal community has risen to every challenge, writing, designing, teaching, organizing, facilitating and producing more than ever." Credit: Penn StateCreative Commons

As dean of the Smeal College of Business, I’m thankful for the vibrant community I help to lead: students, staff, and faculty. Thanks to the tenacity and focus of our staff and faculty, we transitioned more than 500 sections and more than 6,000 students to remote instruction within a week. And we transitioned more than 400 members of our faculty and staff out of the Business Building and into their homes in 36 hours — without experiencing a single day of downtime. All of this was accomplished as the pandemic gripped the world and altered all of our personal and professional lives. The Smeal community has risen to every challenge, writing, designing, teaching, organizing, facilitating, and producing more than ever. My gratitude is exponentially multiplied by the excellence of the largest alumni base in the world. We are … Smeal. We are … Penn State. We are … thankful for all of you!
