Drugs 101 to educate parents about drug use

Penn State Health will present a program to educate parents about various types of drugs and the peer pressures children face to use them. Drugs 101: What Parents Need to Know will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Central Dauphin Middle School.

A mock bedroom of a teenage drug user will serve as the backdrop for the presentation. Parents will enter the bedroom and be tasked with identifying drug and alcohol paraphernalia. Throughout the presentation, more than 80 trendy drug and alcohol indicators will be unveiled to show how some adolescents hide drug and alcohol use from their parents. Live role playing demonstrations will also occur to help parents initiate conversations with their children and to show parents ways they can help their children beat peer pressure.

Central Dauphin Middle School is located at 4600 Locust Lane in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Register for the event here.
