MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Aaron Whigham has been appointed as community relations coordinator at Penn State Greater Allegheny, effective April 2016.
The goal of the new position is to better connect people in the region to higher education by reaching out to individuals and families, especially those from marginalized and disenfranchised neighborhoods and communities, and developing meaningful partnerships with organizations and institutions that share Penn State Greater Allegheny’s vision of community engagement and revitalization.
“In this outreach role, my efforts in the field will likely increase recognition for Penn State Greater Allegheny to the next generation,” Whigham said. “Hopefully, we will be able to educate and enlighten people in the very community in which we reside.”
“Penn State Greater Allegheny takes seriously its commitment to the citizens of the Monongahela Valley and understands the challenges faced by many first-generation and disadvantaged college students," said Andrew Egan, chancellor and chief academic officer at Penn State Greater Allegheny. "With Aaron’s leadership and energy, this new position will bring better direction and cohesion to our goal of making Penn State Greater Allegheny more accessible to people in our region.”
Originally from Wilkinsburg, Whigham now lives in North Versailles and is a senior pastor at Christ is All Innercity Ministries. He is also employed part time as the assistant finance director at Penn State Greater Allegheny and was the district executive with the Boy Scouts of America for the Pittsburgh region.
