Rules and regulations for the Penn State Today photo contest

Basic submission guidelines

-- Send your photo by email to: news@psu.edu. Use the subject line “photo contest.”

-- Limit submissions to one photo per person per month, please.

-- Include a brief caption describing the contents of the photo (who, what, when and where). Our team may get back to you if more details are needed.

-- Include your name.

-- If you’re a student, include your home campus, major and class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.), and your hometown.

-- If you’re a member of the faculty or staff, include your home campus and your department/unit.

-- Using built-in filters and color adjustments is acceptable, but altering photos by adding or removing objects/elements is prohibited.

Submit photos only if they were taken by you. By submitting an image, you attest to your ownership of the image. You also agree that Penn State has the right and license to redistribute the image, royalty free, on its various communications platforms, including but not limited to Penn State Today, Penn State News and various official social media platforms.

Image quality

Images should be high quality -- when in doubt, send the largest version of the image as is possible. If you like to count pixels, just be sure the image is at least 1,000 pixels wide by 700 pixels high, with a minimum resolution of 72 DPI.

Contest guidelines

Photo contests generally will begin with each new month, and will continue for about two weeks. Specific dates will be included with communications specific to each contest. The winning photo will be featured near the end of each month.

The Penn State Today team may follow up with individual photographers by email for additional details regarding any aspect of their submitted photographs.

Penn State Today’s editorial team will make final selections in each contest, and reserves the right to withhold any submission. Winning submissions and runners-up will be distributed on Penn State Today and other University communications platforms as appropriate.

For questions about the contest, email news@psu.edu.
