Schwartz to faculty: 'You are making a profound difference'

Justin Schwartz, interim executive vice president and provost, has shared a message of thanks with Penn State faculty.

--

Dear colleagues,

In my new role as Penn State’s interim executive vice president and provost, I have had the opportunity to witness something incredibly inspiring — 17,000 faculty members from every discipline showing up each day with an unwavering dedication to making a difference.

Each one of you deserves individual recognition for the outstanding contributions you make. From helping Penn State reach a record $1B+ in research expenditures this year to changing lives -- one student at a time -- you are creating knowledge and expanding humanity’s understanding of our world. You are contributing solutions to the problems of our day. You truly are making a profound difference.

As 2022 comes to a close, I want you to know how valued you are — by me and Penn State’s other administrators, certainly, but more importantly by the students, alumni, and others with whom I have the privilege of hearing regular positive feedback. The humility and collaborative spirit with which you operate daily is what makes Penn State such a special and powerful place to be. The way you all are breaking down boundaries and coming together to work across colleges, institutes and campuses is simply incredible and something my peers truly admire about Penn State. Penn State is a world-class institution because of each of you and the unique perspective you bring.

Thank you.

You are living out our land-grant mission across the entire commonwealth, and I’m inspired by each one of you. When we return in 2023, I am energized to continue working with each of you as together we continue this essential work. For now, please accept my deepest thanks. Best wishes for a happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Justin Schwartz
Penn State Interim Executive Vice President and Provost
