It is no simple task to adequately thank everyone who has played a role in our University’s ability to continue operations.

Throughout the nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic, University staff have answered the call to support the University’s decision to resume residential instruction for the fall semester.  While these efforts have extended to virtually every support unit of Penn State, no efforts have been more sustained or more heroic than those provided by the staff of Housing and Food Services (HFS). Over the course of the semester, HFS staff and dedicated volunteers from other University units have supported 2,294 students assigned to isolation and quarantine housing at Penn State’s residential campuses. Boxed meals have been delivered to these students each and every day, a large percentage of which require modifications to meet the special dietary needs of the students.

Another example of outstanding and innovative action by staff can be attributed to those at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. The concert industry has been devastated by the COVID crisis, and the staff at the BJC have worked hard to find ways to repurpose the facility in order to best serve the University’s mission, as well as the public good. During these past semesters, the BJC became the campus’s largest classroom, and students got to "study like a rock star" with classes being taught in the main arena. In addition, the BJC proudly served as an election site for Centre County, and also a critical testing site for UP students.

Through it all, precautions are being taken to ensure that University pandemic protocols are strictly followed in the interest of both student and employee safety.  This year’s success is in no small measure owing to the extraordinary devotion and care exemplified by our staff colleagues.

WE ARE grateful!
