A look at the week's top news from across Penn State:

NEW GREEK-LIFE MEASURES: With the start of the fall semester, University officials have moved rapidly to put in place numerous new measures for Greek-letter organizations at Penn State, with the primary focus on student safety.

BARRON OP-ED: An opinion piece on the topic of Greek-letter organizations, written by Penn State President Eric J. Barron, appeared in USA Today on Aug. 21.

ATHLETICS IN TOP 10: Penn State's comprehensive and successful athletic program has been ranked among the nation's top 10, according to a survey compiled by Yahoo! Sports.

SPENCER NOT WELCOME: After evaluating a request by Richard Spencer, president of the National Policy Institute, to speak at Penn State this fall, the University has determined that Spencer is not welcome. In light of recent violence in Charlottesville, an assessment by campus police and state and federal law enforcement, concluded that at this time the event presents a major security risk to students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.

'HAMILTON' APP: A number of Penn Staters have been integral in the development of an official app for the smash hit musical "Hamilton."

TWITTER IN DISASTER RESPONSE: With more than 500 million tweets sent every single day, new research from the College of Information Sciences and Technology is focused on innovative ways to use that data to help communities respond during unexpected catastrophes.

TOWN HALL: The next University Faculty/Staff Town Hall, which will focus on human resources, will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 in Freeman Auditorium at the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus. It will also be livestreamed to Commonwealth Campuses.

MISS PENNSYLVANIA: Penn State experiences, as a Blue Band member and broadcast journalism major, keep Miss Pennsylvania comfortable with the attention that comes with the Miss America Competition.

FRANKLIN CONTRACT: Penn State head football coach James Franklin signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the Nittany Lions through at least the 2022 season.

BIKE SHARE: Penn State Transportation Services and Zagster, Inc. have announced the launch of a new bike-share program on campus.
