A look at the week's top stories from across Penn State:

PRESIDENT'S BLOG: In his new blog, "Digging Deeper," Penn State President Eric Barron receives a pleasant surprise at a brown-bag luncheon in the form of a crash course chronicling the University's major efforts to study infectious disease.

POLICE TASK FORCE: In an effort to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the Penn State community, a new town-gown task force has been reviewing best practices and developing observations and recommendations in a report to be released later this spring.

CODING FOR THE KIDS: For the students on the THON technology committee, fighting pediatric cancer is the driving force behind every line of code they write, patch, deploy and update in the year leading up to THON weekend.

PENN STATE VALUES: The University is launching a special series of videos highlighting the Penn State Values and people who live and strive for them every day. To start this initiative, Ramon Guzman Jr., a senior in education and public policy, talks about why he thinks the Values are important and what they mean to him.

ROBO HELP: Senior citizens would likely accept robots as helpers and entertainment providers, but are leery of giving up too much control to the machines, according to researchers.

TOP CHOICE FOR JEWISH STUDENTS: Penn State is ranked ninth in the country of public universities for Jewish students, largely thanks to the Hillel organization serving the campus.

SUPER BOWL: A trio of College of Communications students will be working in media-related roles during Super Bowl 50 on Sunday.

RADIO'S RETURN: Penn State Greater Allegheny's WMKP Radio was resurrected in late 2015 after years of silence. WMKP is now broadcasting Monday through Friday.

FOOTBALL GPA: The Penn State football team continued to excel in the classroom during the 2015 fall semester with a record 56 squad members earning at least a 3.0 grade-point average. This marks the fifth consecutive semester (including summer sessions) that the Nittany Lions have had more than 50 student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or better.
