Campus Recreation unveils new, cutting-edge facilities on University Park campus

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Campus Recreation has announced the opening of three new facilities available at University Park: the Esports Center, Gym 2, and a new cycling studio. Offering state-of-the-art equipment, each space has been designed to help improve the fitness and entertainment landscape on the University Park campus.   

Esports Center 

Campus Recreation has partnered with Esports Supply, GGCircuit, AVI-SPL, Student Affairs Information Technology, and Enterprise Network and Communication Services to provide computers, software networking, and audio-visual solutions to create an immersive gaming experience, including gaming consoles, headphones and lighting. 

The new Esports Center offers a 3,000-square-foot space in the Mary B. White Building, built to accommodate up to 60 individuals. Designed by engineering and architectural firm HOK, the Esports Center offers an array of features:  

  • 55 MSI Trident Gaming Computers  

  • one Playstation 5  

  • one Xbox X  

  • one Nintendo Switch  

  • three 65” televisions for PC game casting  

  • three 86” televisions for console playing  

All games and accessories will be available for free checkout. Gaming student organizations will be able to reserve a dedicated coaching area starting in the spring. Penn State students and Campus Recreation members will have access to 10 hours of PC gaming per week and unlimited console play.    

Gym 2 

Providing a 6,000-square-foot space for fitness, Gym 2 in the Intramural (IM) Building is a new space, featuring:

  • Eight power lift racks, four with platforms for Olympic lifting  

  • Ten barbell benches including flat, incline, decline and preacher options  

  • dumbbells ranging from 5 pounds to 75 pounds  

  • plate-loaded smith machine and glute/ham machine  

Cycling Studio 

The new Cycling Studio in the Intramural (IM) Building offers a 2,600-square-foot space that can accommodate up to 27 riders. The studio offers riders an energetic environment, complete with leaderboard software and energizing light and sound along with 25 Schwinn ZS bikes, one ASA accessible Stairmaster HIIT UBE Crank, and three 85-inch televisions.
