Penn State units can participate in 2023 Equity and Inclusion Winter Carnivals

Spring and fall events aim to affirm and celebrate the diversity of the student body and connect students with advocacy or identity-based units and organizations

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State units are encouraged to participate in two Equity and Inclusion Carnivals in 2023 — one in the spring and one in the fall. The carnivals aim to affirm and celebrate the diversity of the student body and connect students with advocacy or identity-based units and organizations.

The carnivals are being organized by Student Orientation and Transition Programs (SOTP), student organizations, Educational Equity, the Graduate School, and diversity, equity and inclusion units throughout Student Affairs. The organizers hope the carnivals will continue as a signature Welcome Week event for years to come.

The winter carnival will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 13 on the first floor of the HUB-Robeson Center. It will include engagement stations hosted by advocacy or identity-based units, music, entertainment, inflatables and food. Units are invited to host an engagement station at the upcoming winter carnival to give students an opportunity to interact with their resources, services and opportunities. Engagement stations will also include an interactive element, such as a game or activity,.

If your unit is interested in hosting an engagement station, please fill out the following form no later than noon on Dec. 16.

Additionally, student organizations are invited to perform at the carnival. Group or individual performances are permitted, and they can be whatever “performance” means to you — song, dance or spoken word, for example — but should be no longer than five or six minutes . If your organization is interested in performing during the carnival, fill out the following form by noon on Dec. 16.

Questions about the carnival can be directed to Ben Giuliana, assistant director for Welcome Programs, at bzg5403@psu.edu
