UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students are invited to attend the inaugural 2022 Be You in Tech Summit: Bringing Your Authentic Self to the Information Age, to be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Hyatt Place in downtown State College.

Individuals can register for the free event by April 1 at ist.psu.edu/be-you. The event is open to all members of the Penn State community but is specifically designed for undergraduate students with an interest in technology careers. Participants must follow all University COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Presented by the College of Information Sciences and Technology in partnership with RSM US LLP — the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market — the Be You in Tech Summit brings together Penn State students and corporate partners in an environment where they can connect, learn, share and support each other while celebrating and recognizing the strength of diversity in the technology field.

“We hope to inspire Penn State students from all backgrounds as they prepare for careers in a global workforce,” said Madhavi Kari, assistant director of the College of IST Office of Inclusion and Diversity Engagement. “Speakers will share how they have successfully navigated their own careers by being true to themselves. Attendees should leave the summit with tools to build their personal brand and inspiration to help themselves and others achieve a sense of belonging.”

The event aims to empower participants in knowing their personal story and embracing it to drive professional success and personal fulfillment. Students will benefit from conversations on career and professional development, finding and building community, and how diversity and inclusion impact technology.

The agenda includes:

  • Welcome and introduction by Jocelyn Bennett-Garraway, associate dean for inclusion and diversity engagement at the College of IST.
  • Keynote presentation, “The New Inclusion: From Assimilation to Authenticity and Discovering the Power of Being You,” by Tracey Walker, principal and national leader of culture, diversity and inclusion at RSM US LLP.
  • An interactive activity, “Knowing Your Story,” led by Christina Churchill, consulting principal at RSM US LLP.
  • An executive panel discussion.
  • Lunch and networking opportunities.
