UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of this year’s Welcome Week, President Barron will welcome first-year students to Penn State during the President’s New Student Convocation, to be held virtually this year at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.

This year’s convocation will welcome new first-year students at the University Park campus and the World Campus. Parents and families are also invited to watch the event celebrating their students.

New students will hear remarks from President Eric Barron, Executive Vice President and Provost Nick Jones and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Kathy Bieschke.

The event will also feature student speakers including Nyla Holland, president, Penn State Black Caucus; Zachary McKay, president, University Park Undergraduate Association; and Sean Walsh, president, World Campus Student Government Association.

College of Arts and Architecture students will provide performances throughout the event, and the convocation will conclude with a celebration of the incoming Class of 2024 featuring a special presentation of the Old Main chimes. The entire program is expected to last one hour.

Students learning in person at the University Park campus are encouraged to wear their convocation T-shirt during the event. The T-shirts are designed to help first-year students identify other students in their academic college and easily facilitate connection and a sense of community between students.

T-shirts will be available to be picked up at Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center on from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Aug. 21 and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.
