Sustainable Communities Collaborative hosting a Campus and Community Sustainability Expo on April 25

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM / April 25, 2024

The Campus and Community Sustainability Expo will be held on April 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the State College Municipal Building, 243 S Allen Street. This event celebrates student work in partnership with Pennsylvania communities in a poster-style exposition; students will be there ready to share their work.

The projects have been facilitated by the Sustainable Communities Collaborative (SCC), an outreach and curricular-engaged scholarship program of Penn State Sustainability. This semester, students representing four colleges and the Hazleton Commonwealth Campus will showcase projects that address sustainability in Pennsylvania communities. Example projects include solar feasibility studies, stormwater run-off mitigation, and landuse alternatives in the City of Clairton, Pa. Since 2012, the SCC has fostered over 380 projects with 11 colleges and 10 campuses, engaging over 4,000 students and 132 community partners. In reviewing the return on financial investment from 2013-23, the SCC process has contributed more than $3 million in economic return to these communities.

The event on April 25 is public, co-hosted by the State College Borough and Penn State Sustainability. No RSVP is required. The event typically draws about 200+ attendees, so this is a great chance to talk with students and faculty, as well as community partners.
