UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries is now accepting student, faculty and staff submissions for the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Data Viz Championship showcasing member universities’ data visualization (data viz) skills.
The competition, part of a BTAA collaboration to celebrate International Love Data Week, provides an opportunity for students, faculty and staff at BTAA member institutions to showcase their data visualization skills and compete for the Data Viz Champion title.
Students are given a data set and asked to produce a data viz for submission, while faculty and staff may submit an existing viz that highlights their institution or one of its projects. More details for competitors in the BTAA Data Viz Championship are on its website.
Penn State participants must use the Penn State University Libraries form to make their submissions. To be considered for the championship, all submissions must be made by 5 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2024.
International Love Data Week is a celebration of all things data that seeks to bring people together to share their experiences, learn best practices and have some fun. The international effort, originally coordinated by Heather Coates, is now hosted by ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research) at the University of Michigan, and many Big Ten institutions coordinate their own institutional celebrations.
Love Data Week 2024 will be held Feb. 12–16, 2024. Member institutions of the Big Ten Academic Alliance will host events that bring together participants from across our institutions to discuss data-related themes. A schedule of Penn State events will be released in January 2024.
Individuals with questions about Penn State’s participation in the BTAA Data Viz Championship or Love Data Week should email repub@psu.edu, the departmental address for Research Informatics and Publishing at the University Libraries.
