UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The spring 2025 Teaching with Technology series will include sessions on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and classroom technologies that can be used to increase student engagement.

The Teaching with Technology (TwT) series, offered by Teaching and Learning with Technology as a part of University Libraries, is a set of virtual workshops that showcase University-approved educational technologies. Instructors will learn how to use technologies like Generative AI, among others, to enhance their course content, increase student engagement and ensure their content is digitally accessible.

Sessions for the spring semester will run through April 2025. Register for the full list of days and times of the TwT program offerings. Session workshop descriptions include:

"Using Generative AI in Student Assignments"

Faculty, staff and students have access to Microsoft Copilot as part of the Microsoft package. Copilot is an artificial intelligence tool that can be used in a variety of ways. In this session, we’ll explore how to effectively navigate Copilot and learn strategies for integrating it as part of planning and preparation and for using Copilot in classes.

"Enhancing Classroom Conversations: Using the Generative AI Acceptable Use Guide to Set Expectations"

This session focuses on how faculty can use the Generative AI Acceptable Use Guide for students. This session will explore strategies that faculty can use to foster transparency and set clear expectations for students around AI usage in assignments. Join this session to discuss how to navigate the spectrum of AI acceptance among faculty and foster constructive dialogues with students.

"Using Multimedia to Enhance Instruction"

Participants will explore how implementing multimedia tools in courses can transform teaching and learning by fostering engagement and deepening student understanding. This session will highlight best practices for selecting and incorporating Penn State approved multimedia tools such as videos, infographics and interactive content to align with learning objectives and improve student outcomes.

"Learning Tool Exploration: AI Tools for Teaching and Learning"

In this virtual session, participants will preview a variety of Penn State-approved AI tools and see how faculty can use these tools to enhance creativity, productivity and efficiency within teaching and learning practices. Attendees will participate in a series of small group breakout sessions where they will be given an overview of AI tools by a TLT representative and review classroom applications.

"Using Technology to Ensure Course Materials are Digitally Accessible"

Participants will explore Penn State-approved technologies and strategies that can be used to help their digital course materials (Canvas pages, PowerPoints, multimedia, documents, etc.) to be accessible. Presenters will demonstrate how generative AI can be used to support accessibility reviews, as well as resources available to support faculty with accessibility efforts.

"Using Generative AI in Course Design"

Participants will learn how to request input from Generative AI at various stages of a course design process to integrate Generative AI into a class. Generative AI can be used as an assistive technology to scale efforts related to assessment planning and content generation (versions of quiz questions, media, etc.). Based on your learning objectives, it can also be used to spark innovative inspiration. This session will be interactive, so participants are encouraged to bring their syllabus or course goals and objectives.

"Learn about ePortfolio"

In this virtual session, participants will learn about ePortfolio, teaching and learning benefits for both faculty and students, and getting started using Sites at Penn State to build an ePortfolio.
