UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) has worked since 2009 alongside 55 diverse Faculty Fellows on projects at the intersection of pedagogy and technology. The window to apply for the next TLT Faculty Fellows cohort is open and proposals will be accepted until Friday, April 19.

Fellows will have two years to develop their projects with TLT. For the 2024-2026 academic years, TLT is seeking faculty proposals for innovative fellows projects centered around one of the following categories:

Generative AI in Higher Education: Innovation Unleashed for the Future of Student Experiences

This theme delves into the transformative, limitless possibilities of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. As we navigate the future of student experiences, our focus is on harnessing AI’s potential to revolutionize learning environments. From creating dynamic content to fostering innovative approaches to teaching and learning, Fellows and their projects can unleash the full potential of this technology utilizing freely available existing generative AI.

Tech for Togetherness: Cultivating Student Connection and Belonging with Technology

Because the world thrives on connectivity, this theme explores instructional technology’s role in cultivating togetherness among students. Emphasizing the use of technology to bridge social gaps in higher education from virtual communities to collaborative platforms, TLT invites Fellows to explore and implement technologies that enhance student connection and belonging through digital camaraderie.

Digital Fluency: A Sense of Wonder for Curiosity and Creativity Via Technology

This theme is dedicated to students building the essential skills for tomorrow, empowering them to confidently navigate and be inspired by digital complexities. Applicants are encouraged to embrace the wonder of the educational experience that sparks curiosity, nurtures creativity and unveils the marvels of techno-social existence. The aim is to prepare students for futures where adaptability and innovation are key.

Learning Analytics: Harnessing Data for Informed Educational Innovation

Today’s educational landscape has an abundance of student data, and this theme addresses the pivotal role of learning analytics in shaping education’s future. Its focus is to recognize learning analytics’ power to reveal insights that can redefine educational strategies, uncover the potential to proactively support students, and identify areas for pedagogical enhancement. Fellows selecting this theme may advocate for a data-informed culture where learning analytics is leveraged to harness evidence-based decision-making.

TLT will work with the next fellows cohort to better understand how educational technology can advance these four areas of innovation. University faculty from any college, discipline or campus are invited to submit their ideas of ways technology can advance engaged learning at Penn State.

Faculty who submit successful proposals will work collaboratively with TLT project teams to combine ideas, innovative spirit and academic expertise to apply emerging technologies to teaching and learning.
