UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries has announced the seventh annual VOICES, an event to showcase unique storytellers in their own words, focused on creating dialogue to challenge prejudices and stereotypes.
In preparation for this year’s virtual event, the VOICES committee is accepting applications for storyteller “voices” — individuals from marginalized or stigmatized identities who wish to share aspects of their life journey with the Penn State community.
VOICES 2023 will be held March 29-30 and will consist of a combination of in-person and live virtual readings from which event participants can select. Q&A sessions will be scheduled during the event for participants to explore themes and topics, and thus gain a deeper understanding of each “voice.”
Anyone interested in sharing their story is asked to please complete this application by Friday, Oct. 28. Organizers will confirm the selected “voices” by Nov. 18. Because this is a hybrid event, organizers are seeking “voices” from across the global Penn State community who have been impacted by any level of dismissal, prejudice or disenfranchisement based on one or more visible or invisible identities. Everyone has a story to tell and there are plenty of people who are eager to listen.
