UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — At the conclusion of fall semester finals week, most Penn State University Libraries locations across Penn State will either be closed until after the new year or have limited operating hours until the beginning of spring semester 2024 classes on Monday, Jan. 8.
The University Libraries will close its locations Dec. 22–Jan. 1 during Penn State’s winter break and New Year’s Day. On Jan. 2–6 most locations will have limited operating hours.

On the University Park campus, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will be open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 18-20. On Thursday, Dec. 21, the library will close to the public at noon to begin work to prepare the large library facility for extended closure during Penn State’s winter break. This decision was informed by historical data noting low numbers of library users on the day prior to Penn State’s winter break.
During the first week of January 2024, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will be open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed Saturday, and open 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7. Beginning Monday, Jan. 8, its spring semester operating hours will be:

7:45 a.m.–midnight Mondays–Thursdays,

7:45 a.m.–7 p.m. Fridays,

11 a.m.–7 p.m. Saturdays

11 a.m.–midnight Sundays
Later in the spring semester, the University Libraries will close its locations Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day national holiday. In addition, most locations will have abbreviated operating hours Friday, March 1–Sunday, March 10, during Penn State’s spring break.
