UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries and Penn State Lotus will co-host a zine workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, to address the stigma surrounding victims-survivors of sexual violence in minority communities. The workshop encourages participants to utilize creative expression as they create their own zine, while learning about Lotus and the Libraries in a safe and collaborative environment.

A zine is an independently published, homemade publication devoted to specialized or unconventional topics designed for knowledge creation and to leverage under-represented voices. To create a zine, participants cut, paste, craft and then write a narrative that is copied and shared with others.

The workshop takes place in W013 Pattee Library on the University Park. campus, and is free and open to all Penn State students. Participants will learn about Lotus organization while they explore the art of zine-making together. All supplies will be provided to this free workshop and no prior experience creating zines is necessary.

Penn State Lotus is a community that fosters a safe and healing environment for victim-survivors of sexual violence within Black, Indigenous, and other collectives of color.
