UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Brian P. Bittner, director of emergency management at Penn State, has graduated from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Emergency Management Advanced Academy. The graduation was held July 21 at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Comprised of four one-week resident courses, FEMA’s Advanced Academy provides strategic-level training and education for emergency management professionals to manage dynamic emergency management programs. Students learn skills critical to performing emergency management responsibilities, including program management and oversight, effective communication, integrated collaboration, and strategic thinking, along with completing a research project one month prior to attending the final course.

Bittner, a 20-year veteran of Penn State University Police and Public Safety, has been director of emergency management since 2011.
