University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State Justice and Safety Institute, an outreach service of Penn State, will hold a graduation ceremony for 21 deputy sheriffs from around the commonwealth at 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, in Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center on Penn State's University Park campus. The graduation program will include an address by Steven A. Evans, sheriff of Bradford County. The deputy sheriffs completed a mandatory 19-week basic training program offered by the institute through a contract from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
Program topics included civil law and procedure, crime code and criminal procedure, emergency vehicle operation, legal issues and ethical and professional development. The training is open to deputy sheriffs from all of Pennsylvania's 67 county sheriff offices.
