UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Arts and Architecture’s Woskob Family Gallery will host "Pour Paint and Poppies," a creative evening of abstract art, wellness, and community in honor of Penn State alum and Medal of Honor recipient Michael P. Murphy. Set for 6-8 p.m. Nov. 12 during Military Appreciation Week, it will celebrate and empower attendees to engage in mindfulness and self-expression.
The event will be held in-person at the Woskob Family Gallery, 146 S. Allen Street, in downtown State College.
Through a guided paint-pour experience featuring poppies, a symbol of remembrance and healing, participants are invited to explore how art can help carry grief, build resilience, and foster meaningful connection. All are welcome to share light refreshments and an atmosphere of support and reflection.
The evening will be led by Briana McCrae Carr, the founder of Nourich NeuroArts Neighborhood, and a retired combat medic who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. She is a student at Penn State Abington.
Nourich NeuroArts Neighborhood aims to blend art, wellness and neuroscience to help "put purpose to the pain." Their pop-up experiences use creative media — from paint pouring and printmaking to poetry, songwriting and storytelling — to promote mental health, empathy and post-traumatic growth. Founded by McCrae Carr, Nourich uses the arts as a bridge for healing, helping communities flourish through creativity, vulnerability and human connection.
