UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Proposals are now being accepted for Penn State’s 16th annual Professional Development Conference on Academic Advising, taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, University Park.
Presentation formats include lecture/discussion, panels and workshops, with proposals due no later than Apr. 15. A submission form is available at dus.psu.edu/dus-fall-conference-proposal-form. Multiple submissions are welcome, but each proposal must be submitted separately.
This year’s conference will focus on “Inclusive Advising: Building Bridges in a Diverse Learning Environment.” Submitted proposals should support this topic, examining the influence of diversity on our campuses and how to best support all students in complex learning environments.
The conference promises a myriad of conversations and thought-provoking presentations led by experts who will guide participants to examine the adviser’s role in advocating for best practices for all students, and provide insight into how we can be cognizant of diverse student needs.
Inquiries regarding the proposal process can be directed to conference planning chair Tanja St. Pierre at txs181@psu.edu. Other conference details are available at dus.psu.edu/2017-fall-conference.
The conference is sponsored by Penn State’s Division of Undergraduate Studies, Office of Undergraduate Education, University Faculty Senate, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and The Mentor: An Academic Advising Journal.
The Division of Undergraduate Studies, a unit within Penn State Undergraduate Education, is Penn State’s largest unit of enrollment for first-year students. It leads the development of advising policies and practices, manages the University-wide academic information network, and provides general academic advising for current and prospective Penn State students.
