University Park campus parking updates and reminders for spring semester 2024

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Transportation Services has announced parking changes at Innovation Park and the East Deck and shared reminders regarding parking access for faculty/staff and student permit holders.

Innovation Park parking changes

Due to the specific needs of individual parking areas, the following locations at Innovation Park are now being managed by Property Management Inc. (PMI) and Penn State permits will not be valid for parking in these areas:

  • 310 Building
  • 328 Washington Building
  • 329 Malcom Building
  • 330 Building
  • 331 Building

All Penn State and private employees working at these buildings have been contacted with instructions for obtaining a new parking permit for these locations. Penn State employees in these areas who wish to maintain a Penn State parking permit for parking needs elsewhere on campus may keep their current permit or contact their department parking chair if they wish to switch to a different permit.

Visitor parking, including for visiting Penn State employees, will only be permitted in designated visitor spaces.

Parking at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, 101 Lubert Building, and 103 Building are already managed privately.

Transportation Services will continue to manage parking at the 100 Outreach Building, 200 Technology Center, and 230 Bluford Building, with a valid Penn State parking permit required between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

East Deck rate change

Effective Friday, March 1, the prorated rate for the first hour of parking at the East Deck will be discontinued.

Vehicles without a valid permit for East Deck parking will be subject to the $1 per hour rate immediately upon entry.

This change is being made to match the existing rate structure at the other campus parking decks (HUB, Nittany, West).

Parking reminders for permit holders

Updating license plate information

Faculty, staff, and student parking permit holders are reminded to check that license plate and vehicle information associated with their permit is correct and up to date.

With the transition to license plate recognition (LPR) for parking enforcement and permit holder access to the East, HUB, Nittany, and West decks, permit holders must have accurate vehicle information associated with their permit to prevent parking citations from being issued.

Permit holders may add a new vehicle, remove a vehicle, or change the vehicle information for a license plate already registered with their permit by logging into the online parking portal with their Penn State credentials. The portal is available at this link.

Instructions related to making these changes within the portal may be referenced via this link.

Vehicles parked on campus and displaying a valid permit that are not registered for use with that permit are subject to ticketing. A warning with no fine will be issued for the first offense, but subsequent offenses will result in issuance of a $10 violation.

Parking tickets issued to unregistered vehicles or vehicles not associated with a permit not paid within 30 days are sent to a collections process for payment. As such, all faculty, staff, and student permit holders all urged to maintain accurate and up-to-date information using the online parking portal. Please review and update your records as soon as possible and remember to do so any time there is a change to the vehicles being used with your permit.

New Penn State id+ Card as backup credential at gated parking decks

If license plate recognition does not work for any reason, the new Penn State id+ Card recently issued to faculty, staff and students now serves as the backup credential to access the deck. Each entry and exit lane machine have a dedicated card reader in the lower left-hand corner where permit holders can tap their id+ Card to open the gate. Permit holders who have set up their new id+ Card for use through a digital wallet will also be able to use the tap technology to open the gate using their mobile device.
