UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Writers Organized to Represent Diverse Stories (W.O.R.D.S.), in collaboration with Students for Justice in Palestine, will host a free slam poetry show titled "Voices of Resistance" at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, in Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center. Doors will open at 8 p.m.
The show will use poetry to connect the struggles in the Middle East to tensions in the United States. Headlined by poet, author and political commentator Remi Kanazi, the event will highlight the perspectives of Arab and Muslim students on campus and feature performances by W.O.R.D.S. members.
Based in New York City, Kanazi is the author of the forthcoming poetry collection “Before the Next Bomb Drops: Rising Up From Brooklyn to Palestine,” as well as “Poetic Injustice: Writings on Resistance and Palestine,” and he is the editor of “Poets For Palestine.” News outlets throughout the world, including Salon, Al Jazeera English and BBC Radio, have featured his political commentary. His poetry has taken him across the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Middle East, and he has appeared in both the Palestine Festival of Literature and Poetry International.
