UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Parents looking for more age-appropriate programming for their children can soon turn to their local public broadcasting station for all-day content available anytime and anywhere.
WPSU Penn State will launch a new 24/7 digital channel, WPSU KIDS, on Monday, Jan. 16, that will be dedicated solely to PBS KIDS programming. The multicast service, unveiled in collaboration with PBS member stations across the country, will allow viewers to watch PBS KIDS programs from their televisions and digital devices at any time, including after-school and prime-time hours.
PBS KIDS programming will be available on local cable providers Brockway Cable and Comcast; over-the-air television; streaming services Amazon Fire, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku and Xbox One; wpsu.org and pbskids.org; and the PBS KIDS apps. The digital platforms, including a new WPSU app that is expected to be released at the end of January, will provide live streaming services as well as on-demand clips and episodes.
“The new WPSU KIDS programming brings important educational content to children that’s accessible at any time, especially during prime time, and allows families to collaboratively watch and learn together,” said Greg Petersen, director of broadcasting for WPSU. “The quality of the programming that kids interact with plays a critical role in their early development, and WPSU Penn State is dedicated to providing the resources necessary to help unlock children’s potential.”
The WPSU KIDS channel will feature popular PBS KIDS programming including “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” “Odd Squad,” “Wild Kratts,” “Dinosaur Train,” “Nature Cat,” “Ready Jet Go!,” and PBS KIDS’ newest series “Splash and Bubbles.” PBS KIDS programming will also continue on WPSU-TV during its normally scheduled times.
WPSU KIDS will be available on Brockway Cable Channel 78 and on Comcast Channels 181, 198, 206, 236, 239, 243 or 250 depending on local listings. WPSU KIDS will be the fourth digital channel offered through WPSU Penn State as it joins WPSU, WPSU Create and WPSU World. WPSU reaches 515,000 households in 24 counties in central Pennsylvania.
