UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Police and Public Safety, alongside its partners at the Centre County Sheriff’s Office and the Ferguson Township, Spring Township and State College police departments, will host a car seat safety event on Thursday, Sept. 14. The event, which will take place from 3-6 p.m. at University Park in the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office parking lot along Curtin Road, will feature car seat safety checks and assistance with car seat installations.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death and injury for children in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, making it imperative that children’s car seats are installed correctly.

“Centre Region law enforcement officers are trained to assist parents and caregivers with checking and installing child passenger safety seats,” said University Police Officer Michelle Beckenbaugh. “This car seat safety event provides a free and convenient opportunity for parents to be confident that their children are in the right car seat for their age and that the seat is installed and being used properly.”

The event is open to the public. For additional information, contact Beckenbaugh at 814-863-1111.
