Northern Tier Center to offer Certified Recovery Specialist program

LEHMAN, Pa. — Do you have a history of addictions recovery and want to help others? The 54-hour Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) is a peer support position formally recognized by the Pennsylvania Certification Board. Participants will receive education in recovery management, education and advocacy, professional ethics and responsibility, confidentiality, and addictions.

To apply for certification to become a CRS, individuals must meet the Pennsylvania Certification Board requirements, which include: a history of addictions recovery — must have a minimum of 18 months, in a continuous manner, of personal, lived recovery experience; a high school diploma or GED; successful completion of the Certified Recovery Specialist 54-hour training program; successful completion of the Pennsylvania Certification Board CRS exam; and sign an ethical code of conduct.

The CRS program will be held at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Northern Tier Center in Towanda from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 6 through Aug. 3 (no classes will be held June 26 through July 7). There also will be two Saturday sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 17 and July 15. A voluntary exam prep session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 5.

Cost for the program is $995 per person and includes all required study materials but not the exam. The Pennsylvania Certification Board requires candidates to complete the CRS exam application. The cost of the exam is $100, payable directly to the board with the application and requisite documents.
