Penn State Wilkes-Barre, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will host a blood drive on campus on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The event will benefit the campus’ fundraising efforts for THON.

The drive will be held in Hayfield House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The American Red Cross will donate $2 to THON and the Four Diamonds Fund on behalf of Penn State Wilkes-Barre for every participating blood donor.

THON is a student-run event that seeks to enhance the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, both in revenue and volunteer participation. Supporting the Four Diamonds Fund, THON fundraising helps provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure the critical research needed to find a cure. This year, THON will be held in-person from Feb. 18 to 22, 2022, at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus of Penn State.

In 2021, THON raised more than $10.6 million across all of the Commonwealth Campuses. Last year, Penn State Wilkes-Barre raised over $11,000 for the THON 2021 fundraising cycle, exceeding its goal of $5,000. This year, the campus aims to raise $10,000.

The University’s COVID-19 guidelines will be enforced to ensure the safety of all participants. Masks are required inside all campus buildings. Appointments are recommended to mitigate crowds and ensure your donation time. To make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter PSUWB in the “find a blood drive” search box. Donors are asked to bring photo identification with them to the drive.
