DALLAS, Pa. — Penn State Wilkes-Barre recently hosted a special event to recognize faculty and staff who are published authors. The Authors’ Reception was held in Nesbitt Library and honored those who published works from 2020 to 2023.

This was the first year the event was held at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Faculty and staff were invited to celebrate the achievements and publications of their colleagues. In total, 15 authors were recognized, with physical displays about each author and their latest four publications, as well as a slideshow that featured each author and their publications. Remarks were given by Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Lynda Goldstein and Head Librarian Valerie Lynn.

The reception was coordinated by Courtney Snow, Nesbitt Library circulation assistant.

“This Authors' Reception was a great opportunity to show the campus the work that was being done behind closed office doors,” Snow said. “Unless colleagues work in the same department or on projects together, they may not be aware of what someone in another department is working on. We have so many employees at our campus who have published chapters and papers, and their work is worthy of being recognized.”

Those who were recognized at the inaugural authors’ reception had anywhere from one to 21 publications. Authors included Christyne Berzsenyi, professor of English; Daniel Blessner, assistant teaching professor of physics and mathematics and statistics; Dimitrios Bolkas, associate professor of surveying engineering; Erin Brennan, assistant teaching professor of business; Christopher Burke, information resources and services specialist; Luciana Caporaletti, lecturer in biology; Wei-Fan Chen, professor of information technology and computer science; Stephanie Gresh, assistant teaching professor of business; Anatoli Ivanov, distinguished professor of mathematics; Albert Lozano-Nieto, professor of engineering; Henrique Candido de Oliveira, assistant teaching professor of surveying engineering; Jeremy Olson, assistant professor of criminal justice; Deyu Pan, assistant professor of rehabilitation and human services; Rebecca Sarver, assistant teaching professor of criminal justice; and Natalya Vodopyanova, assistant teaching professor of corporate communication.

Berzsenyi said she enjoyed learning about the other authors as well as their research and writings.

“Usually, we research on our own, write on our own, and work with publishers on our own, meaning that our colleagues are not involved or aware of what we do. It was especially great to have the posters so that we could read the essay or book chapter titles,” she said. “It was nice to have my work highlighted in this manner and to talk with my faculty and staff colleagues about our work. I’m grateful to the library staff for their initiative and hard work in honoring us.”
