UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The number of students who have earned their degree online through Penn State World Campus has exceeded the 37,000 mark.

As of Penn State’s fall 2023 graduation in December, there are now 37,178 all-time graduates who have completed their degree from among the more than 175 programs that are offered online. The number of all-time graduates is projected to reach the milestone of 40,000 later this year.

These alumni are part of the larger Penn State alumni community, which numbers more than 750,000.

The tally of World Campus students who graduated in the fall semester was 1,260. They included the first-ever graduates of the Master of Professional Studies in Artificial Intelligence program, a student majoring in energy and sustainability policy who attended the U.N. climate change conference in Dubai and a business student whose family came all the way from Italy to see their son graduate.

“Our students have finished such a momentous accomplishment by graduating, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for them with their Penn State degrees,” said Marcia Kimler, the Penn State World Campus associate director of alumni relations. “We are excited to welcome more graduates to the World Campus alumni community. We hope that they will be lifelong Penn Staters.”

World Campus graduates can join the Penn State Alumni Association and continue to be involved through the Penn State World Campus Alumni Society. The alumni association and alumni society host virtual events throughout each year to create connections among alumni. They also offer networking and career support, and they recognize alumni with awards each year.

Penn State World Campus has been offering education online at Penn State for more than 25 years, starting with a course in turfgrass management in 1998. The offerings have evolved into a comprehensive selection of undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees in fields such as business and management, engineering, nursing and health, education, the liberal arts, and more.
