YORK, Pa. — Penn State York freshman forward Trent Thomas has been named this week's Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Student-Athlete of the Week for men's basketball. Through a 3-1 week for York, Thomas shot 74.1 percent — 20 of 27 — from the free-throw line, while adding 114 points, 15 assists, nine rebounds, and four steals in an average of 36 minutes per game.
“Trent has performed at an incredible level on the offensive end of the court,” said Parrish Petry, Penn State York’s head men’s basketball coach. “He has added a scoring dimension to our team that has allowed us to win 9 of our last 11 games and put us in a position to enter the playoffs to win a fourth consecutive conference championship.”
During York’s lone loss of the week, a 98-95 defeat against Penn State Schuylkill, the 27-year-old freshman from Red Lion, Pennsylvania, scored a career-high 49 points. Thomas shot 16-of-33 (48.5 percent) from the floor in the overtime battle with Schuylkill. Thomas averaged 28.5 points per game on the week to help his team improve its record to 11-10, 10-3 PSUAC.
The three-time PSUAC champions head to the playoffs the week of Feb. 15 to defend their title.
