Dickinson School of Law
Penn State's Dickinson School of Law is not only Pennsylvania's oldest law school, but the fifth-oldest in the United States. Its graduates have included five governors and three U.S. senators.
The law school is located in Carlisle, a short drive west of the state capital of Harrisburg. A merger with Penn State was completed in 2000, aimed at enhancing opportunities to prepare students in the new frontiers of law, such as biotechnology, intellectual property, and agricultural and environmental law. Students also benefit from interdisciplinary programs that combine law with areas in which the University has traditional strengths--business, engineering, medicine, and environmental studies, for example. A unique dual-campus law school is in the planning stages: in Carlisle, historic Trickett Hall, seen in the background here, will receive major renovations, while a new facility will be added at University Park.
