DUNMORE, Pa. — Penn State Scranton recently hosted its annual Lambda Pi Eta honor society ceremony recognizing high-achieving students in the corporate communication program. Among the attendees were Chief Academic Officer H. Durrel Johnson, Program Coordinator of Corporate Communication Kelly Conlon-Mazzucca, Assistant Teaching Professor of Arts and Humanities Jim Hart and Adjunct Lecturer of Corporate Communication Stephanie Longo, along with Lambda Pi Eta alumni, and family and friends of the awardees.
Graduating students were adorned with honor cords to mark their achievements at the upcoming commencement ceremony. This year’s recipients, Justin Dorneman, outgoing president, Jenna Scarfo, vice president, and Khalil White were honored for their contributions.
“Being a part of such an incredible and prestigious society has been an absolute pleasure and privilege. I am honored to have served this year as the chapter president. Being able to work with others in the corporate communication major and faculty to put on a great induction and cording ceremony was an honor,” Dorneman said. “I want to thank all of the evening's guests for coming out to support the inductees, and I wish all of them all the best of luck in the future.”
Additionally, newly inducted member Zamarra Vrabel received an official honor society certificate and pin, symbolizing the commitment to excellence in communication studies. Vrabel will take over as chapter president for the 2024-25 academic school year.
“I am beyond privileged to be the faculty adviser for the Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society here at Penn State Scranton. The students work tirelessly to go above and beyond, not only academically but in campus outreach, and their everyday lives. I am so proud of them and all of their accomplishments,” Mazzucca said. “The yearly ceremony is such a nice celebration for students, their friends and families, and faculty alike, to honor all of their hard work. It's so nice to see everyone come together in support of our corporate communication department's finest students.”
To be eligible for membership, students must have a declared interest in the communications field, while also having completed 60 hours of undergraduate credit courses, with 12 of those hours being in communication courses. Students must also be enrolled full time and have academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, maintain a 3.25 GPA in their communication courses, and be in the top 35% of their graduating class.
Lambda Pi Eta is the official Communication Studies honor society of the National Communication Association. As a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, Lambda Pi Eta has more than 500 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide.
