Materials Research Institute

MRI provides a focal point for access to Penn State materials research facilities and fosters the creation of formal and informal interdisciplinary groups as well as materials centers that address complex problems in health, the environment, energy, and national security.

Penn State is a great choice for graduate studies and research in materials. A Penn State MS or PhD is the first step toward exciting science, engineering, and technology careers in communications, computers, energy, manufacturing, medicine, transportation, and national security.

Recognized faculty, interdisciplinary programs with hands-on training, and world-class facilities support a rich community of leading materials scientists and professionals, making Penn State one of the premier materials research institutions in the world.

Located in the heart of central Pennsylvania, the Penn State MRI at University Park offers a vast array of research and analytical capabilities for materials students, faculty, industry, and government. MRI provides graduate fellowships, research assistantships, and research opportunities for undergraduates, and seed grants to help develop new interdisciplinary initiatives.
